Blog 3 Anorexia

1. Write a blog entry in which you argue that pro-ana websites and blogs should be shut down, using persuasive examples and evidence to support your point. (Remember that providing logos from the Envision articles will lend credibility to your stance.)

Pro-ana websites need to be shut down as soon as possible. They are used to make an anorexic person feel like what he/she is doing is perfectly normal. Girls from the article even talked about how they would go to the websites at the end of the day and cope with one another. By taking down these websites anorexic people will realize what they are doing is not normal, and try to find a way to change.

2. Next, write from the opposite stance in which you argue in defense of the websites' existence. Use persuasive examples and evidence to support the opposite stance.

Pro-ana websites are a good way to help anorexic people cope with their problem. They allow many people with similar beliefs to support each other and stay strong. As stating in the article, the girls continuously get ridiculed because of not eating, and they are able to share their similar stories to each other at the end of the day. By allowing these “pro-anas” to feel welcomed and loved, it will make them happier people.

3. Finally, write a third position in which you try to find a middle ground between these two extremes.

Ultimately, the choice is up to the individual. Many people have different beliefs and views about what is right and wrong, what’s ugly and what’s not, what’s fat and what’s skinny. If an individual achieves happiness through losing weight and seeing the number on the scale decrease each week, that’s good for him/her. Correspondingly, if a person is not happy with their weight but they are against anorexia, they should start exercising and dieting. If someone is anorexic but unhappy with their life, and wants to stop but cant, they need to seek professional help.
